July 1778. A French fleet of mighty warships under Comte d’Estaing arrives off Sandy Hook to aid the colonies. The British Navy finds itself hard pressed to fulfill the duties cast upon it.
Vice Admiral Lord Anthony has temporarily transferred his flag to the frigate, HMS Peregrine for diplomatic duty. The ship’s captain is Lord Anthony’s brother Gabe. The mission is to transport prisoners of war and their families to Norfolk, Virginia in exchange for British prisoners. Sailing under a flag of truce Peregrine is viciously attacked.
The roar of cannons and smell of gunpowder once again fills the air as Lord Anthony’s ships struggle to do their duty.

An interesting sorry! Easy to read with lots of action that was easy to follow.
I have read the entire series so far twice. I reread the first set of books as a refresher then read the new book. I really enjoyed them.
Loved this series so far? want to read more of them.Mr Aye rates with kent,pope,and the rest of the great age of sail writers.I would give more stars if I could.
Exciting story lines with some twists. Still, more than usual grammatical errors.

If you saw my review for the first few books in this series, you'll know why I was hesitant to buy this one. Fortunately, I read through the sample chapter and could see few of the flaws that had clouded my enjoyment of the earlier books, so I gave it a chance, and am very happy I did. The fine story-teller that was hidden by the poor editing of those books has emerged here, and I can easily recommend this to readers of HNF without qualms.
Granted, there is still room for improvement, the officers are a bit too perfect and the men too loyal and well-behaved - it seemed like there was never a defaulters list in any ship commanded by one of the Anthonys, let alone the grating being rigged. Yes, some authors dwell too much on naval punishment, but to totally ignore it is not the answer.
Regardless, I got to the end of this well-paced and action-filled story definitely wanting more, which pushed my initial 3-star rating to 4. Well done, Mr. Aye! Please may we have some more?
Very slow in developing the story which was weak. To many players to keep up with and the part they play. Gaps in the story ( what happens in the intervals). As an example a battle ends, the dead are buried at sea and the next thing you know the Anthony's have another admiral in the family.
